Board Buzz: Valvoline Partnership with The HILL

We offer a recap of this month's planning session of the Fayette County Board of Education as part of our commitment to providing regular updates for FCPS student families, our employees, and the community.

The board heard about the exciting collaboration between Lexington-based Valvoline Global and The Hub for Innovative Learning & Leadership (The HILL). The initiative provides incredible opportunities for high school students who aspire to be automotive mechanics. "This is a great place to get career-ready," said sophomore Marciana Kates.

The board also heard a proposal for a Board Finance & Accountability Committee (BFAC) to replace the current Budget & Finance Committee. The new structure would revise the size and make-up of the panel, and it would include public monthly meetings and quarterly reports.

Other Agenda Highlights

Superintendent Liggins reviewed several items on the consent agenda for the Nov. 24 regular meeting and gave board members a chance to ask questions of staff.

Along with Barber's proposal, the consent items included:

• Plans to sell Southside Technical Center at 1800 Harrodsburg Road as surplus
• Granting of easements and the sale of unimproved portions of property at Liberty Elementary and the nearby bus garage to allow for road improvements

Additionally, the board will hear the Financial Records Audit Report, which has been delayed by the federal government shutdown.

At the regular meeting, the board will also consider updates to their governance manual.

Community members may attend the school board's planning sessions and action meetings at the John D. Price Administration Building, 450 Park Place, where public comment is welcome. The monthly action meetings are also livestreamed on the FCPS YouTube channel and the district's Video on Demand service.
