Art Museum Celebrates Students’ Wildlife Sculptures

Art Museum Celebrates Students’ Wildlife Sculptures

The Headley-Whitney Museum of Art invited middle school students across Fayette County to design and build imaginative wildlife sculptures from recycled materials for the Improbable Baubles: Creatures of Nature exhibit. Students from seven local schools participated last spring, including Edythe J. Hayes, Jessie Clark, Lexington Middle, and SCAPA at Bluegrass.

Fifty-five student sculptures were displayed from April through November as part of the museum’s Charley Harper Exhibit. In a closing ceremony Sunday, SCAPA’s Leyang Shi received the Curator’s Choice Award with the “Dragonfly” entry. Additionally, the top vote-getters among Fan Favorites were SCAPA’s Emily Francis with “Koi Fox” and Lexington Middle’s Selina Esteban with “Can-ger-roo.” Each winner received an award certificate and $25 cash prize.
