Interpreting & Translation Services

Fayette County Public Schools is a diverse district with more than 90 spoken languages. To meet these students’ and families’ needs, we have an in-house team of 80 to 85 interpreters representing more than 35 languages. This office is responsible for listening to, understanding, interpreting, and translating for students and families for whom English is not their first language.

Families:

If English is not your native language, you have the right to request an interpreter for all school-related meetings and events at no cost to you. Simply communicate it to school staff, and we will arrange to make it happen. We welcome your participation!

The Back Story

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Educational Opportunities Act of 1974 require schools and districts to ensure English Language Learning (ELL) students have opportunities to participate equally in educational programs. Federal law requires the school district to provide interpreters and written documentation in the families’ home language. Schools must communicate information to limited English proficient parents in a language they can understand about any program, service, or activity that is called to the attention of parents who are proficient in English.
