Portfolio: Students will submit a writing portfolio in a provided Portfolio Template - bit.ly/gtliterary-hs. All pieces in the portfolio must be original writing and typed. 

The writing portfolio must include:

  • 1 student choice of: a play, screen-play, comic, or essay. (8 pages maximum)

  • Optional: Up to 2 additional pieces of student choice, any form/genre (8 pages per piece maximum)

Possible forms: Storytelling (written), Spoken Word, Podcast Script, Flash Fiction, Short Story, Novella, Novel, Playwriting, Poetry, Graphic Novel, Short Film Script, TV Pilot Script, Full-length Film Script, Critical Essay, Lyric Essay, Video Essay, Experimental Writing.

Possible genres: fantasy, horror, science fiction, drama, comedy, romance, historical fiction, magical realism, western, literary.

On-Demand Writing: The on-demand audition will last 60 minutes in a group setting, administered at the student’s FCPS current school. At that time, the student will complete several on-demand prompts. On-demand writing will be completed using a student’s FCPS Chromebook. If desired, students will be provided pencil & paper.

On-Demand Interview Questions: All students will answer 3 to 4 standardized and content-specific interview questions during the on-demand portion of your audition. Interviews will be video recorded and are not scored, but are used as supporting evidence for gifted identification.

Gifted and Talented Identification: In addition, students must have a qualifying score (9th stanine) on one of the following assessments: Iowa Achievement Test in the area of Reading, Profile of Creative Abilities (PCA) test (age 14 or under) or other applicable assessment. The District Recommendation Committee will determine, if needed, appropriate alternative assessment options.
