An artist's rendering of Mary E. Britton Middle School, which is slated to open in August 2025
The newest build in Fayette County Public Schools is a middle school at 2185 Polo Club Blvd. It will feature flexible, collaborative space with a capacity of 1,200 students in grades 6-8. Environmentally friendly and energy-efficient strategies are also a priority. The target completion date is June 2025.
The school board unanimously approved the naming committee's choice of Mary E. Britton Middle School. Britton (1855-1925) was a public school teacher, journalist, and civil rights activist. She was also the first Black female doctor in Kentucky and practiced medicine in Lexington.
