Academic Contests

Our elementary students have two competitive avenues to exercise their brains outside the classroom: the longstanding Academic Challenge and the Quiz Bowl. Please reach out to your school if your child is interested in participating.

Academic Challenge is an Urban League of Lexington initiative in partnership with FCPS, community sponsors, and Kentucky colleges awarding scholarships to youngsters in grades 2-5 in two age divisions.

  • March 14: Regional contests at three host campuses
  • March 25: Superintendent's Cup finale at the John D. Price Administration Building, 450 Park Place

Quiz Bowl is a way for our fourth and fifth graders to test their knowledge of the Kentucky Standards and show what they have learned throughout their academic careers. Each year they prove that most adults in the room are indeed not smarter than a fifth grader!

  • Feb. 21: Quiz Bowl at host Glendover Elementary
