We provide a place where families of children with special needs can receive help with their issues and concerns. You can find information on various topics related to physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities. We will also update this webpage monthly with upcoming events, webinars, and video series to help you navigate different aspects of special education. This collection of online resources aims to serve as a one-stop shop for your family with assistance from Fayette County Public Schools, the state of Kentucky, and beyond.
June: PTSD Awareness Month
According to the National Library of Medicine, “Approximately two-thirds of youth are exposed to trauma by late adolescence, and some develop PTSD as a result.” Events that may cause post-traumatic stree syndrome to develop include:
- Abuse
- Violence
- Natural or man-made disasters
- Vehicle accidents
- Learning about the traumatic events happening to someone close to them
