Families must inform FCPS if their children will ride a bus to school because the district assigns routes to registered riders in grades K-12.

In May or June, please complete the IC Annual Update for the upcoming school year via the Campus Parent Portal. It includes a transportation yes/no question for each child.

Bus Portal for Registered Riders

Attention, families: After you or your school have completed student data updates through the IC Campus Parent Portal, you can use our school bus portal called TransAct, which allows you to view your child's assigned bus schedule.

Go to the school Bus Portal

If you are new to this system, click “Create Account.”
Follow the prompts on the next screen and submit via the button in the bottom left corner.
Watch for an email from FCPS Transportation and follow the steps to confirm your correct email address.
A window should open stating that your account has been successfully verified and activated.
Return to the School Bus Portal.
Sign in to access the bus stop and bus route information for your family.

Note: Bus routes are subject to change anytime, especially during the early weeks of a new school year. You will receive an email if a transportation change affects your student -- provided that your child is a registered bus rider.

FAQ

Is everyone required to take action every year?

Yes, for all families of students in grades K-12, you should log into the IC Campus Parent Portal in late spring to check either yes or no for bus transportation for the upcoming school year. (This is part of the IC Annual Update of household information in our student records system.) The summer deadline is typically about 10 days before the start of school, which allows time for Transportation staff to develop the bus routes and pair them with registered riders. You can also call your school's registrar to add a student.

No, for families of preschoolers, whose buses are assigned separately.

What if my child just shows up at a bus stop?

If an unregistered student turns up at a bus stop in the morning, they are permitted to board the bus and ride to school. However, since bus stops and routes can change, the student should confirm with the driver that the bus is going to the school they need to get to.

Note: Preschoolers cannot ride an FCPS school bus without a teacher-assigned bus vest, including the school location information tag. The new routing system does not impact our preschoolers, whose buses and assigned by the preschool office.
