Health Resources for Families

Students come to Fayette County Public Schools with many health-related needs. If a student's health condition affects their ability to access or participate in the learning environment, they might be eligible for accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 or through the district's Special Education Department. For 504 accommodation questions, contact your school's counselor. If your child has an Individual Education Plan or you believe they might need Special Education services, please contact the school's special education facilitator.

FCPS is allowed to bill Medicaid for school nurse services for eligible students, if the family agrees to release their child's information. Please return this completed form to school:

CDC Protocols

In light of the CDC’s latest protocols, the Kentucky Department of Public Health issued the following recommendations:

Stay up to date with vaccinations to protect against serious illness, hospitalization, and death. This includes flu, COVID-19, whooping cough (pertussis) and RSV if eligible.
Get plenty of sleep, exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and reduce your stress.
Practice good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing or sanitizing hands often, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
Stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after symptoms are getting better overall and fever has ended (without using fever-reducing medication).
When sick with any respiratory virus, seek testing or treatment if you have risk factors for severe illness, and take precautions for five additional days -- enhancing hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask when around others, and keeping a distance from others. For suspected COVID-19, consider taking an antigen test. A positive test means it is more likely you can still spread the virus.

The Fayette County Board of Education invested millions of dollars during the COVID-19 pandemic, including:

Installing UVC lights and air purifiers in our oldest facilities, and providing air purifiers for classrooms without windows;
Extending the hours of HVAC in all schools to help with indoor air quality; and
Increasing the number of full-time nurses in schools.
