Fine Arts

colorful icon illustrating dance, drama, music, visual art

The Fine Arts team coordinates band and orchestra; vocal, instrumental, and general music; visual art; theater; dance; creative writing/literary arts; and humanities (“History and Appreciation of the Visual and Performing Arts”) for the school district. Our goals include increasing student participation, enhancing student achievement, and encouraging family engagement in these areas.

Our three instructional specialists -- David Fonda, Rachel Losch, and Kelly Mayes -- help support about 250 arts educators and over 40,000 students across Fayette County Public Schools.

Seal of Arts Excellence

The Seal of Arts Excellence -- first offered to the Class of 2024 -- enables students to make concrete connections between their artistic endeavors and the FCPS focus on high levels of achievement, cultural competence, and preparation for the future. Graduating seniors who demonstrate an advanced level of specialization in a visual and performing arts discipline can earn the seal from FCPS and receive:

  • A medal to wear at their graduation ceremony (in compliance with the regalia guidelines)

  • An emblem on their high school diploma; and
  • A notation on their transcript.

The portfolio should represent a student’s best work throughout their high school experience and showcase how the arts truly embody an "Education Beyond Expectation."
