State Testing & Accountability

Kentucky's accountability system includes a list of six state indicators that measure school performance:

• State Assessment Results in reading and mathematics
• State Assessment Results in science, social studies, and writing
• English Learner Progress
• Quality of School Climate and Safety
• Postsecondary Readiness (high school only)
• Graduation Rate (high school only)

The system's overall performance for each district, school, and student demographic group combines the current year's status and improvement from the prior year. Districts' and schools' results are displayed on a color-coded online dashboard:

FCPS also shares our district's and individual schools' percentages of students scoring "Proficient" and "Distinguished" in reading and math on the Kentucky Summative Assessments. These numbers are displayed at the top of our websites:

Background

The U.S. Department of Education required states to implement new school accountability and school identification requirements starting with the 2021-22 school year. The Kentucky Board of Education approved amendments to 703 KAR 5:270 to include changes required by Senate Bill 158 (2020), and it became effective in the fall of 2021.
