How does this program benefit my child?
We focus on your students' education. We provide tutoring for those who need additional support in any of their core classes, and we communicate with their school to provide support wherever we can.
In addition, we provide learning opportunities for students through college/trade school tours, outdoor safety, and summer camps.
We also work with community organizations to help families and students overcome barriers that could affect their education (e.g. food insecurity, homelessness, mental health concerns).
How do I qualify for this program?
You qualify by moving into the FCPS district and working in agriculture or with livestock in Lexington. You can also qualify by having a history of moves out of economic necessity (two or more moves in the past two years), having a history of migrant work in the United States, and actively applying but not being hired for agriculture jobs.
What kind of work qualifies for MEP?
Working with an animal that produces (feeding, bathing, etc.) except horses, or working in fruit/vegetable production (preparing soil, planting, harvesting, packing, etc.)
How long do I qualify for?
Three years, starting with the date that your family moved to Lexington (Example: If the family moved here 3/20/2024, they exit the program 3/20/2027).
If I move to another state or school district in Kentucky, what happens to my remaining time in MEP?
The time remaining of your three years will transfer to the new state or school district. Once you notify us of your move, we contact the MEP office in your new area and inform them that you are moving there.
