Officer Gary Gruman is a native of North Dakota. His grandparents operated a dairy farm and his parents were grain farmers, raising wheat, barley, corn, beans, and sunflowers. Immersion in agriculture from a young age cultivated an appreciation for the land and a connection to nature. It also instilled a sense of pride, hard work, determination, and patience. Gruman earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Psychology from North Dakota State University. He spent 20 years in law enforcement, including 17 years as a South Dakota state trooper. He has advanced training in crash scene reconstruction, roadside impairment, and data collection. He was also a drug recognition expert for the state of South Dakota. Officer Gruman now serves as a member of the FCPS Police Department.
