Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Smith earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education from Bowling Green State University, a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from American Intercontinental University, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. She also holds additional certifications in AP English and Holocaust education, and has directed an early college program at EKU. Ms. Smith has been teaching for over 20 years in several Kentucky counties, as well as in Akron, Ohio, where she was born and raised. She has a daughter who graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's degree in nursing, who is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Public Health, and a son who will be attending Bluegrass Community Technical College pursuing an Associate's degree in Business. Ms. Smith’s great passions, in addition to teaching, are reading and travel; in 2012, she traveled to Poland and Israel and, in 2013, she traveled to France with a student to honor WWII soldiers killed on D-Day and buried in the American Cemetery in Normandy. Ms. Smith has dedicated a significant portion of her career to helping students find ways to be successful within a variety of educational settings. Her goal at TCMS is to help students identify and develop the academic and soft skills necessary for success beyond K-12 schooling.
