Mrs. Rebecca Stephenson
Rebecca Stephenson holds an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a BFA in Modern Dance from the Ohio State University and a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from Eastern Kentucky University. Rebecca is also a Certified Movement Analyst through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York City. While living in New York, she choreographed and performed works at the Cunningham Studio, Context Theatre and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Rebecca has received grants from the Ohio Arts Council, Kentucky Arts Council, Greater Columbus Arts Council and Artsbridge. She has also received a Choreographer’s Award from the Kentucky Arts Council. Her love of dance began with her an award-winning competition career as a Scottish Highland dancer, and expanded with years of study in jazz, tap and ballet, and modern dance before deciding to major in dance in college. Drawing on this background of breadth and depth, Rebecca now teaches Contemporary Dance for the Elementary and Middle School students at SCAPA, and is currently on faculty at Centre College. She has also taught at the University of Kentucky in the Opera program and has worked as a guest artist with the University of Kentucky Dance Ensemble. Rebecca has taught dance at Eastern Kentucky University, and has choreographed for Berea College’s Kinetic Expressions. She has also presented multiple times at the National Dance Education Organization’s annual conference as well as the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference and gala.
