Alberta Labrillazo is in her 29th year of teaching theatre at SCAPA Bluegrass and her 27th year at SCAPA Lafayette High School. She received her BA in Theatre at University of Kentucky and her MA in Teaching at Thomas More College.

She has directed over 50 productions and stage managed over 100 productions inthe region with companies including Lexington Children’s Theatre, Lexington Musical Theatre, Lexington Ballet, Woodford Theatre (formerly Midway Summer Dinner Theatre and WCTAA), KCTC SummerFest, Lexington Shakespeare Festival, Paragon Music Theatre, Actors’ Guild, SCAPA, and Diana Evans School of Dance (DESOD).  

She has served on the KDE Content Advisory Committee (Arts & Humanities) for eight years and was honored as Arts Educator of the Year by the National Society of Arts and Letters and as a recipient of University of Kentucky's Keys to KERA and Teachers Who Made a Difference. Past directing credits include Madagascar, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Lion King, Fiddler on the Roof, 42nd Street, The Music Man, Cats, Annie, Jr., Oliver! Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables School Edition, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Peter Pan, and The Wiz.

She has co-directed SCAPA’s community Outreach programs, Camp ArtSmart and BOOKS ALIVE! and taught at LCC’s Upward Bound Program. Miss Labrillazo has spent past summers in San Francisco directing children’s musicals (Guys and Dolls, Bugsy Malone, Adventures of Dr. Doolittle, and Wonderland!) for Bay Area Educational Theatre Company. Miss Labrillazo's former students have performed Off Broadway (The Office) and on Broadway (Dear Evan Hanson, Cats, Hello Dolly, Mack and Mabel, Hamilton), film (In production: Lord of the Rings), and television (Downton Abbey, Under the Dome, Empire Boardwalk). She is currently in rehearsals with SCAPA’s Hello Dolly!.

Miss Lab, as her students affectionately call her, lives with her three rescues, Goldendoodle Bodhi Joe, Shih Tzu Kevin DeWayne, and Cockapoo BellaLou. In her copious free time, she sleeps and does laundry.
