Mrs. Jacqueline Adkins
Jacque grew up in Lincolnton, NC, where she first developed a love of reading and writing. As a kid, she could always be found immersed in a favorite novel. In fact, her first job was in a library! In high school, she took an Advanced Grammar and Composition class which ignited a love for grammar and writing. Fueled by these passions, she decided to major in English at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, graduating in 1993 with a B.A. in English Education.
After marrying a Kentucky boy and staying at home with their three kids for a few years, Jacque began to look for a way to pursue her passion for teaching. Her oldest daughter Amber had been a part of SCAPA as a strings major, so when a teaching job as an English teacher opened up, she jumped at the chance to be a part of a school that had been so life-changing for her daughter. In 2015, Jacque joined the faculty of SCAPA as an 8th grade English teacher, partnering with her co-teacher (and fellow UNC alum) Eva Aldridge.
Jacque and her husband Chris have three beautiful kids: Amber, a senior at Lafayette in the SCAPA and pre-engineering programs; John, a sophomore in the MSTC program at Dunbar; and Emma, a brand new fourth grade SCAPA strings major. She loves that she gets to spend her days inspiring young students to love books, language, and writing...and feels blessed that she gets to do it as part of the amazing program at SCAPA.
