About the School
What Makes Us Special
The Harrison community is dedicated to our vision of becoming a model school where all students achieve at their highest level. Although staff and students are held to high expectations for academics, we believe that developing the whole child is essential to our mission. Faculty and staff work collaboratively with parents and community members to enhance our core curriculum and create a positive learning environment in which every child can be successful. We are very proud of our enhanced arts and humanities program which supports our academic achievement goals. Our arts programming includes visual art, general music, honors chorus, piano lab for grades 2-5, orchestra, band, drama, practical living, and Spanish as well as an additional humanities class emphasizing the impact of the arts on cultures around the world.
We also recognize the importance of after school activities on motivation and achievement and consequently, we offer ESS programming including after school clubs and tutoring for 3rd-5th grade students. Clubs include drama, chess, STLP and robotics, Academic Challenge, fitness, dance, art, and music. At Harrison we also emphasize the importance of goal setting and planning for the future. We want our students to be college and career ready and provide opportunities to plan now for the future through our World Changer's guidance program. We also have mentoring partnerships with UK, Transylvania, and several local churches to encourage students to work hard and excel in school. Each month, we highlight college experiences and opporunities through our Think College Thursdays.
Working together with our community is essential to reaching our vision. At Harrison, we value our community partners who work alongside our students and staff every day including our Great Leaps mentors from Christ Church Cathedral and our mentors from Altrusa, the Orphan Society, Broadway Christian Church, Christ United Methodist, God's Pantry Food Bank, Translyvania University, and countless others who provide resources for our students each year. One essential partnership is with Health First Bluegrass which provides our Healthy Kids Clinic for student and family access to medical care and mental health services.
