NTI = Non-Traditional Instruction
April 11, 2020
Dear Southern Families,
Let me start by saying that seeing photos of our students on Dojo working on their NTI work and hearing staff member stories about our kids brought so much joy to me this week. Their precious faces concentrating and thinking and reading to pets was just what I needed. Thank you for sharing and please don't stop sending the pictures any time soon!
Earlier in the week you received an email from Superintendent Caulk discussing participation and attendance tracking. Throughout this week your child’s teacher has been working with you and your child to help navigate this new learning platform. Teachers will be taking attendance with the various ways they are communicating with your child such as parent check in, phone calls, virtual meeting, student work submitted, and online learning programs. We realize that we are giving you a lot of information and as a parent trying to navigate all of this while at home can be difficult. We continue to work to improve our NTI instruction delivery and you will see some minor changes for Days 11-20 that will allow student work to be more streamlined and some flexibility built in. Remember, we're all in this together.
Kindergarten Registration is still happening, just virtually! Use this link to complete the online registration. Once we are able to get back into the building we will then have you bring the rest of your required documents (deed/lease, birth certificate, current utility bill & immunizations). We will contact you with the information listed on your registration to let you know to come in.
Medication - Prior to school being called off if your child took medicine at school we called you to see if you wanted to pick it up. We now realize that what was a two week break has become a seven week break and your child may need that prescription. Therefore, if you would like to pick up your child’s medicine please email Ginger Perkins and she will work with you to set up a time to get the medicine back to your child.
2nd - 5th Grade Families - If you did not check out a Chromebook for your child and you determined that one is needed one for any reason please contact your child’s teacher and we will work with you to get one to you. Also, if you are having a login issue we ask that you contact your student’s teacher for assistance. Fayette County is offering a technology help line to support students and families while at home and they can be reached at 859.381.4410 and are available Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students were not given chromebooks simply because we do not have enough inventory to assign them one. We are working on increasing the number of chromebooks but it's doubtful we will have enough this school year. For that reason, K and 1 students will primarily complete work through a paper packet.
