Artist's rendering of the new elementary school on Greendale Road
The new school under construction on Greendale Road, which will accommodate 750 elementary students, is projected to open in fall 2027. The building spaces are organized along an east/west axis in a two-story configuration.
The first floor will house preschool, kindergarten, first, and second-grade classrooms along with common areas like the gym, cafeteria, and library. The second floor will house third, fourth, and fifth graders. Resource rooms and additional administrative areas are on both floors for easier student support. The school will also feature specialty spaces for art, music, and nature studies, a maker space, and two flexible classrooms. It will also have a Family Resource Center.
A two-story building of this size has many advantages. It will minimize the amount of land needed, it helps to shorten the walking distance to common areas, and it improves the efficiencies of construction as well as the overall energy efficiency. The project will also have sustainable features such as a geothermal heat pump system, LED lights, occupancy sensors, lighting controls, insulated concrete forms, no-wax flooring finishes, pervious pavers in parking areas, and trees throughout the campus.
