Fayette County Public Schools will open the Carter G. Woodson Preparatory Academy in fall 2021. This program, which will first be housed in the renovated and historic Johnson Elementary building on Sixth Street, will initially welcome 150 boys in grades K-2 and then add a level every year through fifth grade. The STEM-focused curriculum (science, technology, engineering, and math) will be taught through the lens of African-American history, culture, and culturally responsive teaching and learning strategies.

How to apply
The application period for 2021-22 closed Feb. 8, and families were notified by email the week of Feb. 16. Incoming kindergarteners not selected for the prep academy must register at their districted elementary school.

Answer: Waitlisted applicants will be contacted according to space availability. If a family declines an offer or allows their offer to expire, the next applicant on the waitlist will receive an offer. We will continue in order listed from the waitlist until spots are filled.
