Districtwide Magnet, GT, & Specialized Programs

Along with neighborhood schools, FCPS offers exciting opportunities through the over 30 magnet, gifted & talented, and specialized programs (MASP) that prepare students for a successful future.

Important Distinctions

Magnets

A magnet is a school or program organized around an area of interest or theme such as science or the arts. It draws students from the entire community, and there are no specific entrance standards.

Specialized Programs

A specialized program is often housed within a regular school, and it is organized around an area of interest or theme. It draws students from the entire community, and there are no entrance criteria.

Career & Technical Education (CTE) Pathways

CTE pathways integrate hands-on learning and cutting-edge technology to prepare students with academic, technical, and employability skills. There are no entrance criteria.

Gifted & Talented (GT) Programs

GT is a program serving formally identified gifted/talented students in a specific area such as general intellectual ability, reading, math, creativity, leadership, and the performing arts.

Alternative Support Programs

These programs are designed to meet students’ needs that cannot be addressed in a traditional classroom setting. There is no application process; FCPS administrators handle student placement.

Transportation Options

To make program enrollment more feasible and help families whose students attend an out-of-area program, FCPS has developed centralized bus stops in regional locations. Additional stops may be considered and created if:

  • Enrolled students are eligible for free/reduced meals
  • Traffic or safety concerns make walking to the centralized bus stop extremely dangerous

Additionally, some programs offer shuttle service, generally leaving from the student's districted high school.

If a program is not listed below, the parent or caregiver is responsible for transporting the student to and from school.
