AVID Elective

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. In our district, it's an elective core academic course that supports students who have the potential to succeed in challenging classes by helping them develop essential skills. Using the WICOR framework (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading), the curriculum teaches students key strategies like effective note-taking and critical thinking. The class also includes tutor-led sessions where students work together to solve academic problems from their other courses.

While the AVID elective provides intensive support for a specific group of students, its impact extends across the entire school. The program trains teachers in all subjects to use AVID strategies, creating a consistent approach to learning that benefits all students and builds a schoolwide culture of college readiness.
