Visual Art (Grades 6 - 12)

Audition Tasks

  1. Art Portfolio (submitted digitally): Please showcase work that you have completed within the past year. Also, include a variety of subject matter. Subject matter refers to the subject you depict in your work. Examples include, but are not limited to, portraits/faces, animals, architecture, still lifes, works from imagination, nature scenes, etc.

Grades 6-7 must include a total of 3 to 5 art pieces:

Do not copy or use any other artist’s work. All work submitted must be your own original work, may NOT be works created in art camps or outside of school workshops.

Grades 8–12 must include a total of 7 to 9 art pieces:

Include only original pieces in a variety of media and subject matter. (See Suggested Media and Subject Matter List).

2 On-Demand Still-Life: Students will complete an on-demand graphite pencil drawing of a still life in 45 minutes at school. Paper, #2 wooden pencils, a large eraser, blender, and an ebony pencil will be provided in a kit.

3. Grades 8–12 only -- On-Demand Interview Questions: All students will answer 3 to 4 standardized and content-specific interview questions. Interviews will be video recorded and are not scored, but are used as supporting evidence for gifted identification.
