Students will choose a 1 to 2 minute monologue from the grade-level list. Prepare and memorize the monologue. Think about physical and vocal variety while developing the character. No props or costumes are allowed.
Grades 6–8:
Students will work in small groups of two to four on a short scene. They will have 15–20 minutes to work in small groups to block and prepare their scene on the day of their audition.
Grades 9–12:
Students will be provided a 2- or 3-person contentless, open scene that they have not read. Students will have 5 minutes to read, think, and explore the piece physically and vocally. Students will establish the given circumstances for the scene with their partner. Where are they? What is their relationship? What is their objective (what they want)? And how are they going to get it (their tactic)? Everyone will do two (2) scenes with different people. Students will then perform the piece (using the script, not memorized).
