Audition Tasks
- Performance:
- Each student should prepare two (2) pieces of contrasting styles (fast/slow or from different time periods).
- Students should choose music that reflects their interpretive and technical abilities. At least one piece must demonstrate fingerstyle playing.
- Suggested repertoire might include selections from Noad’s Solo Guitar Playing Book 1 or higher or any other comparable level solo repertoire that is 1–3 grade levels above.
- Please note: Students MUST perform unaccompanied.
- Memorization of the music is optional but highly encouraged and may improve overall audition score.
- On-Demand Sight-Reading: (6–7 S-R Samples, 8–12 S-R Samples) go.fcps.net/GTSRSamples Exercises will include the following criteria.
- First position notated in both standard notation and TAB
- 1 or 2 accidentals
- 2/4 or 4/4 meter
- Rhythmic values will include: dotted half notes, dotted quarter notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, and whole notes and all equivalent rests.
- Various dynamic ranges and articulations
For possible SCAPA placement: Due to available service options, SCAPA Guitar will be available for grades 9–12 at SCAPA Lafayette only).
