Improve student achievement through rigorous curriculum and instruction providing students with evidence-based educational experiences that not only engage but also excite, prepare, and support them.

What We Will Do

Define, support, and evaluate the implementation of a culturally relevant and inclusive guaranteed and viable curriculum in all classrooms.
Provide additional early childhood education opportunities (birth to pre-K) and develop strategies for kindergarten students who need additional support upon entering school.
Engage families in supporting their students’ academic and career planning and accessing their personalized plans.
Outline grade-level milestones and benchmarks for the Portrait of a Graduate and clearly communicate expectations for students and educators.
Enhance and develop opportunities at the secondary level for all students to access rigorous courses, hands-on experiences, internships, and industry certifications.

How We Will Do It

Evaluate consistent implementation of existing instructional framework and comprehensive districtwide curriculum to identify areas of strength and improvement.
Monitor the continued implementation of effective professional learning communities in every school.
Identify and expand consistent application of evidence-based literacy models, effective instruction, and best practices across the curriculum.
Establish early literacy and numeracy goals for all learners, including English learners and students with disabilities.
Review grading practices to focus on demonstration of mastery.
Identify key interim assessments for students that are required on the district's assessment calendar, and help schools use the data from identified assessments and other sources to improve instruction and support for students.
Adopt and support implementation of a comprehensive instructional framework that supports trauma-informed and culturally competent teaching.
Foster strategic collaboration between educators at each school level, and between high schools and colleges and employers to improve transitions for students.
Expand the number of days for teacher professional development.
Clearly communicate the Portrait of a Graduate and determine student expectations for content, skills, and experiences at each grade level.
Implement a system to monitor each student's progression toward the Portrait of a Graduate attributes.
Engage families in supporting their students' academic and career planning.
Ensure all students receive meaningful guidance related to their development on the Portrait of a Graduate from educators, counselors, and families from preschool through high school.
Develop a comprehensive approach to career pathways for all students complete with rigorous courses, hands-on experience, internships, and industry certifications.
Create a culture of transforming learning experiences with technology, including a provision of modern and relevant assistive technology to ensure students with specific or special needs can fully participate in learning.
Expand access to pre-kindergarten, especially for children with limited English proficiency, and develop strategies to support kindergarten students who lack readiness.
