Project Right Size, Bright Future

Project Right Size, Bright Future is a key part of a broader initiative to reduce budget pressures while addressing shifts in student population across Fayette County Public Schools. Factors in play include school capacity, building costs, facilities upkeep, and the demand for modern, specialized learning environments.

Our district is closely examining all its facilities with an eye toward improving financial efficiency and long-term sustainability. A community-based committee is offering insight and feedback as FCPS leaders develop a multi-year plan to align facilities for specialized programs and assign boundaries to address capacity for new and underutilized school buildings. The goal is to ensure we can direct finite budget dollars toward what matters most: student programs, school activities, and continued academic growth.

  • Phase 1 featured reviews of all the school programs across the district. It began in November 2025 and wrapped up at the end of February 2026.
  • Phase 2, which kicked off Feb. 26, focuses on redistricting related to the fall 2027 opening of a new elementary school on Greendale Road. The goal is for district officials to present a recommendation to the school board this spring.

Coming Up

The committee is in the final stages of considering different scenarios for redrawing attendance lines. Ultimately, a recommendation will go before the school board. The next meeting:

  • Date: Thursday, May 14
  • Time: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Location: library at Coventry Oak Elementary, 2441 Huntly Place

Strategic Model

We're using a shared accountability model for input and feedback throughout this journey:

  • FCPS District Leadership -- staff in the Operations, Pupil Personnel, and Budget departments
  • Community Committee -- representatives from businesses and civic organizations, faith leaders, and education advocates
  • Impacted Schools -- representatives from their staff and students' families

Note: The Fayette County Board of Education makes the final decisions.
