School Announcements

  • Letter from your principal

    Dear school families:

I’m writing with great news! From my previous communications, you know that our district and school teams are working hard to ensure that every student at William Wells Brown Elementary is successful. In February, we had an external review of our school and many families attended an input session about your vision for the future of William Wells Brown. We appreciate all of the great ideas you shared!

This evening, April 17, we had the opportunity to present a draft of our turnaround plan to the Fayette County Board of Education. Although nothing has been finalized yet, our plan is to provide enhanced educational offerings for our students by extending the school day and adding more days to the school year.

Many of our students are already involved in after-school programs at our school and in the community center. This new structure would allow us to do even more for the children and families we serve by building in more learning time and giving our students additional enrichment experiences in art, music, computer, physical education, and world language.

Our goal is to implement these changes for the 2019-20 school year. There are still many details to be worked out, and our plan has to be approved first by the school board in Fayette County and then by the Kentucky Board of Education, but I wanted you to hear about our exciting proposal from me as soon as it was public.

We will hold a meeting for families at 5:30 p.m. April 25 to share more about our plans to ensure every student is able to fulfill their unlimited potential. I hope to see you there!

    Sincerely,
    Principal Jay Jones
