     US Green Ribbon Schools

    Fayette County Public Schools is the only KY district to host a national Green Ribbon School awardee since the program began in 2012.  

    To be a national Green Ribbon School, a K12 school must demonstrate excellence in three pillars:

    • Reduce environmental impact and costs
    • Improve the health and wellness of students and staff
    • Provide environmental education, which teaches many disciplines, and is especially good at effectively incorporating STEM, civic skills and green career pathways

    KGHS

    KY Green & Healthy Schools is a project-based program that uses the entire school building and grounds as a learning laboratory for students.  To become a KGHS School, schools must complete an exhaustive inventory in one of 9 categories, then design & implement a school improvement project based on their investigation, questioning and passions.

    Over 35 FCPS schools are participating in KGHS and have reached one of four participation levels: Candidate School, School in Progress, School Under Development and official KY Green & Healthy School.
