School's History

  • Opportunity Middle College began is a dual credit, collaborative partnership between Fayette County Public Schools and Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Our mission is to provide all students, especially lower income, first generation college, and minority students, an opportunity to achieve high school and college success, to explore and pursue vocational and career aspirations, and to prepare themselves for future college experiences in a supportive and academically challenging environment.

Our student body consists of 100 high school juniors and seniors only. We accept students from the 6 high schools located in Fayette County.

OMC began operation in 2009. Our students have earned over 4,000 college credit hours and with the support, guidance and assistance from the OMC and BCTC staff, have demonstrated the ability to excel at the college level.

Opportunity Middle College provides a small, family-like atmosphere that nurtures student success in college classrooms. Opportunity Middle College is located on the BCTC Cooper Campus. We have 3 classrooms and an office in the Oswald Building. Our small high school staff includes a principal, a counselor, and three classroom teachers. All OMC students take at least one college course each semester so they are exposed to many other highly qualified college instructors during the time that they attend OMC.
