Academic Challenge

  • logo for Academic Challenge  The Urban League of Lexington’s Academic Challenge II program encourages student achievement and family engagement and provides college scholarships for students attending Title I schools in Fayette County. The annual program gives children in grades 2-5 an opportunity to compete in rigorous contests that promote the pursuit of knowledge as a worthy endeavor. All interested students may participate; watch for sign-ups at school. The students work in small teams to answer questions in various subject areas. They scrimmage against other schools and then square off in regional tournaments in March. Youngsters receive trophies, medals, and participation certificates, and the sponsoring colleges award scholarship offers after the Superintendent's Cup finale.
