Academic Challenge
-
The annual Academic Challenge gives children in grades 2-5 an opportunity to compete in rigorous contests that promote the pursuit of knowledge as a worthy endeavor. All interested students may participate; watch for sign-ups at school. The students work in small teams to answer questions in various subject areas. They scrimmage against other schools and then square off in regional tournaments in March. Youngsters receive trophies, medals, and participation certificates, and the sponsoring colleges award scholarship offers after the Superintendent's Cup finale.
Our founding community partner, the Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County, wants to preserve the original intent of the Academic Challenge -- to provide vulnerable students with access to higher education. Therefore only Title I schools are invited to participate in the competition.
