Ms. Jennifer Hutchison
Born in Detroit, Michigan, I spent the first part of my life in the inner-city being raised by a multi-generational household. The importance of family, hard work, and grit were lessons I learned early, although the value of these lessons was not apparent until later in life. I completed my elementary, middle, and most of high school in Warren, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, before moving to Kentucky.
I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky in Elementary Education and Special Education - Learning and Behavior Disorders K-12. All of my post-graduate work has also been completed at UK. My teaching career began at Harrison Elementary in downtown Lexington, where I worked for nine years as a special education teacher and professional staff assistant before moving to Picadome in 2006. At Picadome, my focus was as a curriculum coach before I became principal in 2010.
In addition to serving the Picadome community, I help engage new principals as a facilitator for the National Institute for School Leadership. Presenting at national conferences and sharing our literacy success have resulted in visits from schools in Central Kentucky and Ohio. I am a lifelong learner and look forward to continuing my post-graduate work. I enjoy living in Lexington with my three daughters.
Once a Picadome student, always a Picadome student!
