Built in 1979, Millcreek is a Reading First and Title I school committed to developing the expertise of the professional and paraprofessional staff to teach reading and other content areas to a high level. Millcreek serves a diverse community, which is one of the school's valuable attributes. The school has partnered with the PTA, city council, Division of U.S. Fish & Wildlife, University of Kentucky and the school district office to restore the natural creek behind the school for an outdoor classroom that will serve as a model for the district and state. Millcreek’s primary program (K-3) places a heavy emphasis on learning to read and provides for two to three hours of literacy instruction each day. The school also has moved to a more investigative math and science curriculum that requires higher-level thinking and writing skills.
