Welcome to General Nation!

As the proud principal of Lafayette High School, I am honored to welcome you to our great school. Our school mission is to ensure all students achieve at high levels and graduate prepared for life. To ensure this vision comes to fruition, we call upon a storied history, a highly effective staff, and an enduring partnership with our community. We proudly offer both the School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA) and Lafayette Pre-Engineering Program on our campus. SCAPA celebrates and enriches the talents of Lexington’s finest arts scholars, while Pre-Engineering affords students the highest levels of math and science instruction available. At Lafayette, all students have access to classes that are both challenging and relevant to their aspirations beyond high school.

Our school opened in the fall of 1939. Lafayette’s beautiful building is one of the oldest in the Fayette County Public Schools system still operating as a school. We share our campus with the Picadome neighborhood, which surrounds our green spaces and athletic facilities. Throughout our history, Lafayette graduates have made significant contributions to our community, our nation, and our world. There are too many notable alumni to identify individually; however, check out the full list of our Alumni Association Hall of Fame members here.  We are proud of our alumni and share their personal stories often. Their care for our school ensures our students know they are a part of something larger than themselves. Once a General, always a General!

Academics are our top priority.  I have a tremendous amount of respect and appreciation for our hardworking teachers and staff. These educators are not only knowledgeable and passionate about their content areas, they also form lasting and meaningful relationships with the students. Philosophically, I believe high school is about exploration and self-discovery. Our students not only explore a variety of course topics and offerings -- they also discover many life skills through our athletics, extracurricular, and co-curricular opportunities. Excellence is the standard for each of these programs. I am so proud of our students, and we find opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and successes often.

To connect further with our school, please follow us on social media for updates, news, and celebrations. You can follow me on Twitter @LHS_PrincipalJ or follow our school feed at @lhshighschool. General Nation is a partnership between those who care about our school.

It’s always a great day to be a General!
