Ms. Jaynae Boateng
Thank you for taking a virtual tour of the educational opportunities, services and programs available at Carter G. Woodson Academy. I am especially proud of our experienced and dedicated administration and teaching staff here at the Academy. Our team of experts have the “whatever it takes” attitude and work diligently to insure our Scholars meet their full potential. We do our best to foster an environment that helps us live up to our motto. We will forever Educate, Motive and Activate the Potential for Excellence that lies within every young male.
CGWA is dedicated to promoting families and creating innovative opportunities that will lead to positive change in the lives of our Scholars. It is imperative that we work together to insure that all of our Scholars excel in the classroom in an effort to compete in the global society we live in today. I firmly believe the partnership between Family, Scholar and School will make way for the positive change we believe in here at CGWA. It will take all three working together to meet the ultimate goal. We are P3, “Partners Preparing to Prosper”!
With that in mind, I invite you to be an active participant in the life of CGWA. Whether a classroom volunteer, a member of our Parent Advisory Committee, help at special events and athletic games, or simply help out in the cafeteria/hallways, I encourage you to be involved!
Clear communication is important to me. Rollo May once said, “Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing”. It is my desire to keep the line of communication between school and home completely clear. I want you informed. Up-to-date information will appear on this virtual site, as well as, our social media platforms daily. You can also review teacher lesson plans and download missed assignments from your Scholars Canvas account! If you have questions or concerns at any time throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact us. Remember, with you on our team, we can make this work!
A native of Lexington, Jaynae Boateng has been program director of Carter G. Woodson Academy since its inception. She is the daughter of the late Jilson Laine and Mary Laine and the proud wife of Dr. Adu Boateng. She received her BA in Communications from Wittenberg University, her master's in Education from Georgetown College, her teaching certificate from the University of Kentucky, and her principal certification levels 1 and 2 from Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky universities.
Her professional educational journey spans some 26 years with a variety of positions including teacher, state consultant, assistant principal, and head principal. Her work with African American males began in 2005 when Mrs. Rosz Akins started the Black Males Working Academy (BMW), which met every Saturday to address the academic and behavioral deficiencies of the students attending a local middle school. The results of this work paved the way for the creation of the Carter G. Woodson Academy (CGWA) in 2012.
The mission of CGWA is to educate, motivate and activate the potential for excellence that lies within every male. Boateng strives to help develop young minority males into well-rounded, well-behaved, well-mannered, well-spoken, well-read, well-traveled, and well-prepared productive citizens within our community and global society.
