    Beta Club Goes to State

    Our Beta Club enjoyed the state convention in Louisville on Monday and earned awards!  Jasmine Ngo placed fifth in the Language Arts competition, James Grant placed 3rd in Spanish, and Victoria Lowe placed 1st in Spanish. 


    Defenders BEAT the Broncos on the road

    The Boys Basketball beat our rivals, Frederick Douglass 72-63 while on the road this month.  WKYT

    Dance Blue @ BSHS

    We celebrated our Dance Blue mini marathon this month! DanceBlue is a fundraising organisation through the University of Kentucky that raises funds for children's cancer research and support at the Danceblue Kentucky Children's Hospital Hematology/oncology Clinic. Last night our students raised $3,254.00. We are incredibly proud of all the hard work our BSHS Dance Blue committee members put into this event. It truly was run by our awesome students. Thank you to the University of Kentucky students who came out to teach us the line dances and support our efforts. Thank you also to Josh Pascal, University of Kentucky football player and cancer survivor, for sharing your journey with our students. Thank you to Meredith Brendley Nathaniel for all your support, hard works, and sharing your story with us.     Academic Team makes History

    Congratulations to our Academic Team for obtaining a historical second place finish this pass weekend on our district Governors Cup. Our Quick recall team led by Madeline Farrar, Ben Shapere, Thomas George and Mia Durham finished in second place after beating Lafayette, Douglass and the Sphinx Academy. This will be our first trip to the regional competition in over 20 years.

    In written assessments:

    • For composition: 1st place went to LaMargaret Johnson, 3rd place to Madeline Farrar and 4th place to Caitlin Deffendall
    • In Language Arts: Ben Shapere took 1st place with Jasmine Ngo taking 2nd place.
    • In Arts and Humanity: 1st place went to Ben Shapere, and 3rd to Madeline Farrar

    All these students move on to Regional, which will take place on Feb 15 at Woodford Co for a chance to compete at the state tournament.

    Welcome Coach Phillip Hawkins

    Bryan Station High School is pleased to announce Phillip Hawkins as the new head football coach of the Defenders.

    Coach Hawkins comes to Bryan Station with over ten years of coaching experience at the high school level. Hawkins has spent the last six years as the head coach at Apollo High School and Doss High School where he led Doss to their first district championship in 20 years.

    Interim Executive Principal Mr. King said, “what impressed the interview committee most about Coach Hawkins is his commitment to engaging parents, alumni, and community members to build up the whole program. He is focused on developing the student athlete and connecting them with opportunities post high school as we strive as a school to graduate all students career and college ready.”

    Hawkins has coached in multiple All-American games including the 2017 Adidas All American game, 2014 & 2016 US Army All-American games and was the head coach in the 2010, 2011 & 2013 US Army Youth All-American Game. In 2012, he was inducted into the Middle School Football Hall of Fame.

    He is a native of Frankfort and graduated from Franklin County High School in ‘87. Hawkins played tight end under Coach Don James while at the University of Washington. He received his Bachelors in Health and Physical Education from Kentucky State University.

    Coach Hawkins will meet with his new players today and will take part in an official press conference Tuesday at 6:00 at Bryan Station High School. Following the press conference there will be a meet and greet for players, parents and community members. All are invited to attend. #defendingstation #nextlevel

    The students had a great time preforming at KMEA during our two days off of school.  We had 10 guitar students perform, the second highest amount of students from one school in the state.  In Orchestra, the following students performed:

    • Andrew Peng, 3rd chair for cello
