Related Arts Programs

  • STEAMS

    STEAMS (science * technology * engineering * arts * math * social studies) is a class offered to K-5 students as part of the Related Arts rotation. Every class attends STEAMS for 55 minutes every five days as students engage in lessons that incorporate cross-cutting concepts, disciplinary core ideas, as well as science and engineering practices.  Students participate in a variety of authentic, interactive activities that require teamwork and problem-solving skills.

    Music

    Our music program is a student-centered, discovery-based learning environment in which students experience and explore music through singing, saying, dancing, and playing. Our students enjoy learning, performing, and creating music with folk songs and dances, multi-cultural music, pop songs, instrumental music, story-telling, aural reaction games and so much more! The music class is fueled by student participation, and all are welcome to learn with us!

    Physical Education

    The goal of P.E. at Breckinridge is to:

    • Teach essential body management skills, such as starting and stopping skills, locomotor and nonlocomotor skills, spatial awareness, body part identification, balance, and control;
    • Promote physical fitness as fun through introduction of a wide variety of activities;
    • Develop teamwork, sportsmanship, and cooperation through group activities.

    Art

    Art education helps students develop creative problem-solving skills and connects them with their own culture as well as with the wider world. The Visual Art class teaches the basic building blocks of artwork: color, line, shape, form, value, texture, and space. Students can express themselves using these building blocks to create and explore with different materials like clay, paint, and pastels. 

    Spanish

    Spanish class is offered twice a week to grades K-5 as part of the arts rotation. Students are engaged by music and movement which develop skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish. They also learn about the Hispanic culture including special holidays in different countries.
