District Mental Health Specialists
Fayette County Public Schools employs district mental health specialists under its Comprehensive 10-Point Safety Investment Plan. The initial hirings improved the ratio of mental health provider/student to 350:1. More staff will be added over time to decrease the ratio even more -- hopefully to 250:1.
This position was created in order to provide a comprehensive program of direct services for all students using the expertise gained through professional training in the areas of school counseling and mental health. The services emphasize counseling of children; consultation with teachers, family members, and other significant adults; and coordination of a variety of activities and functions related to the mental health, academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of students.
