Caldecott Club

Caldecott Club
  • Attention all 3rd and 2nd graders! The Caldecott Club returns! The Caldecott Club is the brainchild of retired librarian, Becky Nelson and second grade language arts teacher, Shemeka Velásquez. Club members are exposed to various books as they review and evaluate illustrators who have been nominated for Caldecott Medal. Students will be doing their own mock voting using the criteria of the American Library Association. On our last meeting day, we’ll throw a huge reveal party to see if we picked the actual winner. The Caldecott Club meets after school every Thursday after school from 2:45 to 3:45 beginnimg in December.

Space is limited. We will accept 20 third grade students and 20 second grade students on a "first come, first served" basis. Participants are expected to adhere to Maxwell's behavior expectations and to attend regularly. Failure to do either will result in dismissal from the club, so that a student from the wait list may be added.
