    Students will learn the all aspects of video production that is required to produce a daily news cast. Filming techniques, lighting, script writing, presentation, and video editing aspects will be covered. The students will rotate throughout the project to each of the aspects.

    Gold school recognition KPREP Kooties
    The STLP students will present videos to their 3-5 grade peers telling them what they can expect during KPREP testing and some tips on how to best be prepared. Their goal is to help reduce the number of students who feel scared, anxious, or nervous (43.2% of 3-5 grade students) about taking the KPREP test.

    Getting Acclimated to BCE
    It can be challenging for new students to learn the culture of their new school. To make their transition easier, our team will be making an informational podcast, complete with songs, that will teach our new students the PBIS structure, daily routines, and the school community culture. While our core team is a group of 6-8 students, many students will have a chance to add songs and episodes to our "Getting to Know BCE" podcast series.

    Gold school recognition badge 3D Printing with a Purpose
    Students will work with teachers in the building and in surrounding schools to help solve a need that can be supported through 3D printing. Students work with their clients and each other to design a prototype, propose the prototype, change and adjust it, and create a final product. Students will document the entire process and create a digital publication of their work at the end. Students will become masters of the 3D printer and will be able to troubleshoot it when it has errors, and use it independently.

    Students will use a Makey Makey and Scratch Programming to create an interactive map, highlighting the various countries from which Cardinal Valley students come. We will celebrate the dual language program at CVE by making our project bilingual. The interactive map will be located in the library so that students can interact with it.

    Cassidy Colts News Live is a live news show run by 3rd through 5th grade students at Cassidy Elementary. The team meets each morning from 8-8:25 to prepare the show and then we go live from 8:25-8:30 each day.

    STLP Racing To The Future
    Students can buy, build and design an HO scale slot car to compete in a drag racing competition against kids from around the state. We incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), into our learning process which allows kids to build the fastest cars possible for competition. Students get to represent their schools in the state STLP Championships held at Rupp Arena each year. This is a great way to learn about science in racing.

    This project teams students with a local software company, Fusioncorp, to build a website and mobile app for the homeless. The purpose is to connect those who need help with those who want to help.

    Lego robotics will be used at Douglass to bring together a team of students to compete in the RCX (Robo Challenge Xtreme) State competition. Students will use math and applied science to code robots and compete in school competitions before heading to state. Robotics encourages teamwork and collaboration to be successful in their missions. Student will learn 21st Century skills and reinforce STEM standards when problem solving their way through the competition.

    Lego Robotics
    The Glendover Robotics Club begins each year in September, learning the basics of programming the Lego’s NXT Mindstorms. Once the RCX materials arrive, members are divided into two teams, and they get to working on their chosen missions. In late January, students combine their completed missions and practice their three-minute rounds. By March, they are ready to fine-tune their three-minute rounds like a dress rehearsal. Then it is competition time!
    Along the way, students are faced with numerous challenges that require problem-solving skills, whether it be programming, building attachments to their robots, reducing time, planning, or cooperative teamwork. It can get stressful at times, but each member ends the year knowing that they had fun and have gained experiences that will benefit them in their future.

    Students will meet twice a week to plan and produce a morning show for our school. They will brainstorm the content and order of program for the show, communicate with teachers and students, and broadcast the show using WeVideo and Pinnacle.

    We will have a team competing in the RCX Competition this year. The RCX competition uses the EV3 LEGO Mindstorms Robots. The students will be asked to build and program the robots to fulfill missions during the competition. This will develop the students' abilities to use computer programming, engineering, problem solving, and technology skills.

    Harrison Elementary Scratch Programming
    Students will meet once a week to work on programming challenges and develop their skills in Scratch programming. They will share their programs with one another and develop their own personal repertoire of programs. Some students may interview at Regional STLP Fair to become Scratch Ambassadors in the spring.

    21st Century Storytelling is something we have been doing at Henry Clay for multiple years, focusing on new technologies and modes of storytelling.     Students will work together on a robotics team to build and code their robot to complete as many challenges as possible. Students will need to use an engineering design practice to create a robot that can meet the needs of different mission challenges.

    Students will work together to design and build a battle bot to compete in Sumo bot competitions. Their robot will have to be designed and built in a way that can withstand any physical challenge from the competitors robot. The students will use block coding to write a program that will push the competitor's robot off the sumo bot board.

    Our project idea is to create a team of Elite Eagle students to help other students with their Chromebooks. We plan to create a website of resources to help students learn how to better use their Chromebooks, and we will also create ways for students to request additional help from our Elite Eagle team. We want to do this as our project because we want to work together to solve all the technical problems that are in the way of the students learning!

    Student is designing a device to track the location of glasses when they're lost. Student would like to create an app that works in conjunction with the device for easier access in finding glasses.

    LHS Robotics
    Students are wanting to compete in sumobots. They have decided on a design and have competed at other educational levels. They're hoping to continue their success at the high school level.

    Proof by Induction - Video Based Mathematical Learning
    Students will create video tutorials showcasing how to complete detailed, upper-level algebraic problems. Ideally the videos would break the process down making it easier for students to understand these types of equations. The students plan to make a channel with multiple videos on a variety of problems.

    Library Advisory Council
    Students formed the Library Advisory Council in order to help improve the overall function of the library media center. Students have multiple projects going to add more interactive learning stations, gather feedback from students, staff, and parents, and create an atmosphere that inspires students to innovate.

    Leestown installed the only Zspace Lab in the district.This lab allows students to learn through AR/VR experiences. The ZLab Ambassadors formed a student-led group to model the use of the lab at community nights and provide instructional support to teachers using to supplement their curriculum.

    Interactive Bulletin Board
    The Interactive Bulletin Board is a project that utilizes Makey Makey devices to connect to a Raspberry Pi to manipulate a Scratch program to allow students to interact with the bulletin board content and display the result to a TV. Students will build the board and wire the "hot spots" to the Makey Makeys. Each device will be remapped to different keys that control how the Pi displays different content on the TV. Students will re-program the Scratch file as the content is updated and create any audio files and images needed for the output.

    3D Printing Models
    Students will work with math, science and technology teachers to create models of chemicals and cells. Technology students will be designing the models with the assistance of teachers.

    Game Design and Development
    Students will work in teams to create a playable game using Kodu. Students will create a team to investigate the elements of popular digital games. Students will use the game design process to develop their product.

    Bridge The Gap: A Call To Action
    The heart of our STLP project is to help the community around us. We focus on cross-cultural communication and accepting everyone for who they are. Our STLP project communicates with multiple schools in the FCPS district. We engage and teach students of all ages and cultures. We help the most marginalized and needy of our community. Our project focuses heavily on TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) which is why we spend the majority of our time in ELL classrooms.

    Students will use WeVideo to create book reviews to share with peers and classmates. These book reviews will be student directed and filmed in a news show setting.     Racing to the Future Start Up
    My students have shown an interest in the slot car racing and design process they see at State STLP. I want to introduce a small group of interested students to this competition. It is something new to our students and I believe could create an interest in a new alternative to game systems that includes science and math principles.
