Maxwell NTI Plan for Families

March 22, 2020
Dear Maxwell Families,
On Friday you should have received a communication from Superintendent Caulk indicating that all Fayette County Public Schools will remain closed to students until April 20, 2020. In that communication, he also mentioned that by April 6, 2020, that schools would be sharing with students and families their individual plans for implementing Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI). I am writing today to communicate the specific plan that we will be implementing at Maxwell.
As a school, we are committed to providing ongoing instruction and support for our students and families during this period of extended closure. This past week staff members worked collaboratively to design standards-based instruction that will be delivered starting on April 6, after spring break. As a school, we will use Seesaw for home learning as our centralized Learning Management System (LMS) or initial online entry portal. Seesaw helps us work together to provide
students with meaningful learning experiences at home. We will use Seesaw to share learning activities and resources, capture your child’s learning, and communicate about student progress and needs.
On Friday afternoon, report cards were mailed to families. When you receive the report card you will find a special paper that contains your child’s individual home learning code for Seesaw. You will need to use that information to fully enroll in the Seesaw CLASS Application. Please note that this is a slightly different version than our current Seesaw. As a result, everyone will need to follow the directions on the handout to enter into this new version of Seesaw. If you do not receive your report card and code by Wednesday afternoon, please contact me directly at email@example.com and I will send you that information via e-mail. For additional technical information about Seesaw for home learning, please access a linked document of directions.
Please note that starting on April 6 that teachers will start to post content on Seesaw each morning. While Seesaw will serve as the starting point for your student each day, directions from your child’s teacher may have them access other online educational applications and content. Your child’s individual teacher will provide you with additional instructions and information about access to other applications if needed.
On Thursday, March 26 I will post a video to students that explains our new learning process and how we are going to stay connected as a virtual learning community. The video will be shared on Seesaw, social media, and via IC messaging. As a school, we will also continue to use those communication pathways and specialized office hours in Zoom to maintain contact during our NTI instructional period.
Thank you for your partnership and for sharing a continuous commitment to your child’s education. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Our Maxwell community is strong and we will continue to learn and grow together! ¡Somos Maxwell!
