Yearbook Help Needed
Kindergarten Registration-Starts Monday, January 25
Kindergarten and New Student Registration is HERE… We will be scheduling individual appointments for families to register their students. In order to complete the registration, you must make an appointment and come to Veterans Park in person to sign necessary paperwork.
Go to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b4eaead29a6f94-vpenew to schedule this appointment (Please bring any remaining documents due with you to this appointment). Families can start the process by completing the online registration and finding the required documents below to be able to register. To enroll a new, first-time student, families may begin the process online here. Items to bring with you are:
- Deed and/or Current Lease
- Utility Bill
- Birth Certificate (Official Copy)
- Current Immunization Certificate
- Proof of child’s recent preventative health care exam
- Proof of an eye exam (due by Jan. 1)
- Proof of a dental exam (due by Jan. 1)
- Court documents pertaining to your child, if applicable
Please note that Patriot Place openings for incoming Kindergarteners is now on a lottery system. Therefore, once a family officially registers they can be placed in the lottery system. Families will be notified then sometime in May if they have been randomly selected for a spot after both spring registration windows have closed. Please note families with older siblings will be given priority to keep families together.
Fifth Grade Promotion
Vaccinations are an important part of keeping our students healthy and ready to learn. If you have not had a chance to get your child's immunization record updated at school, please find time as soon as possible to obtain certificates for your student from your healthcare provider. Students not in compliance may be excluded from attendance, especially in the event of widespread illness. If you are unsure if your student's records are up-to-date, please check with our school nurse Deddie VanBussum or the front office staff.
Imagine Learning Challenge Continues…
In December, VPE had grade level challenges to promote completing weekly 60 minute goals of reading and math in Imagine Learning. With the overwhelming success we are going to continue these challenges in January. Our first challenge will be Boys Vs. Girls. For the next two weeks, we will be collecting Imagine Learning minutes for every student. Who will win Boys or Girls? Winners will be announced on January 29th and prizes awarded to the winning group and sent in the mail! Good Luck VPE Students!
VPE STEM DAY Mark your calendars! STEM Day is scheduled for Friday, January 29th. Students will work with their homeroom teachers to complete a STEM escape room storyline using the various components of STEM (Science - Technology - Engineering - Math). Due to STEM Day happening this will be a non-rotational day for specials.
VPE Chorus is accepting new members in 2021 and is VIRTUALLY AWESOME! 😀Whether you have been singing since August or want to join in January, all VPE students are invited to sing with Mrs. Bishop and Mr. Robinson (student teacher) each week for CHORUS SING-AT-HOME SESSIONS. Per current FCPS COVID protocols for elementary students, CHORUS sessions will occur VIRTUALLY each week whether students are learning from home (NTI-2DL) or learning in-person at school. When we return to in-person school, chorus rehearsals will continue from home via Zoom. Our Virtual Chorus rehearsals will occur on their usual day, but the rehearsal times will be adjusted to allow students to get home. The virtual rehearsal times will be communicated to all students/parents via email, VPE social media and a VPE website announcement. We are learning new songs in January, so new singers will not miss a beat! (pun 🎤 intended)
Each CHORUS SING-AT-HOME SESSION Zoom link can be found on the STREAM in MRS. BISHOP'S GOOGLE CLASSROOM.
VPE CHORUS rehearsal schedule:
- Kindergarten and 1st graders will Sing-At-Home on Mondays from 3:00-3:20pm.
- 2nd graders and 3rd graders will Sing-At-Home on Wednesdays from 3-3:20pm.
- 4th graders and 5th graders will Sing-At-Home on Thursdays from 3-3:20pm.
January Spirit Project
For the entire month of January, our school will be collecting items for dogs, cats and other furry critters at the Lexington Humane Society. A blue donation bin will be located outside of the front entry door of the school, week days between 8AM-3PM . Examples of these items include soft K9 treats, peanut butter, canned tuna, unscented cat litter, towels, litter boxes, flat sheets, etc.
PTA Book Study
Join us for the PTA book discussion in January and February via Zoom. The book is "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?" by Beverly Daniel Tatum. Contact a PTA officer or call the school for details.
FCPS offers a help desk for families who need assistance with a student's email account or Chromebook. Please call (859) 381-4410 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays.
