    Please join us in celebrating reading at Rosa Parks Elementary by participating in the following school-wide spirit days!


    Monday, Feb. 25            Hats off to Reading! - Wear a hat

    Tuesday, Feb. 226            Buddy Reading Day - Buddy read with another classmate, class, guest reader, or friend. Even teachers can buddy up and switch classes to read!

    Wednesday, Feb. 27       Oh, the Places You’ll Go! - Wear your favorite college shirt

    Thursday, Feb. 28           Read Around the World Day - Read a book from a different culture or country

    Friday, March 1              Cozy up with a good book - Wear pajamas!


    Potato Character Contest
    @ Rosa Parks Elementary!


    Who: Any student in grades K-5 can participate!   

    What: Bring in a potato dressed like your favorite book character!     Decorate your potato book character. It can be from a nursery rhyme, fairy tale, fiction book, or any book you like.

    When: All potato characters must be brought into your classroom on Monday, February 25, 2019. All potatoes MUST go home on Friday, March 1, 2019.

    Where: All potato characters will be brought to the library to be put on display.

    How:  - Use a fresh potato.
    - Stand the potato up. You can make an easy stand by cutting the bottom of a Styrofoam cup.
    - On your stand, write:
              - the name of your character
              - your name
              - your teacher’s name


    Judges will check out the potato characters on display in the library

    throughout the week and will vote for their favorites. Winners will be

    announced on Friday afternoon, March 1, 2019. Winners will receive

    a Book Fair gift certificate to the Joseph-Beth Book Fair in April!

  • Please welcome our second Guidance Counselor!


    As part of the Superintendent's Safety Initiative, Rosa Parks has been staffed with an additional Guidance Counselor (Mrs. Gordon isn't going anywhere!)  Please welcome Ms. Katie Havelda!

    Katie Havelda is excited to join the staff of Rosa Parks Elementary this semester as a school counselor. During her career, she has taught first and second grade, worked as an instructional coach, a Child Guidance Specialist, and a school social worker. Ms. Havelda is looking forward to getting to know the children and families at RPE as she provides support to children through small group and individual counseling. A graduate of Transylvania University and the University of Kentucky, Ms. Havelda has called Lexington home for the last 20 years. She has three children and enjoys hiking and cooking with her children.
