  • NTI 2DL Information:

All Secondary schools will be moving to CANVAS for our digital Learning Management System (LMS). This will limit students having to learn multiple LMSs. CANVAS is very well organized and allows for more creativity and engagement in lessons. It also interfaces with Infinite Campus, connects to district provided programs, provides due dates for assignments, and allows for easy communication between parent/teacher and teacher/student.

CANVAS FAQs for Parents can be found at

FCPS has answered many questions about our Fall 2020 learning opportunities in the Reenvisioning, Reimagining and Renewing Booklet

Morton Leadership is committed to providing a daily schedule for delivery of instruction and expectations for teaching and learning. Upon approval of SBDM, we will share more specifics regarding the daily instructional schedule with our families.

A monthly newsletter will be distributed by the principal beginning the month of August. Please be sure that your email addresses are accurate so that you do not miss out on vital information.

  • Morton preps for cross country

Is your child interested in running cross country for Morton?  Cross country is a sport that involves running distances of 1.5-3 miles across a field or countryside, compared to a track or road.  If interested, please see the below information.

At this time, we cannot schedule tryouts, but students can (not mandatory) condition in preparation.  In order to minimize gatherings all conditioning will be done individually.  There are two steps that must be completed in order to receive the conditioning workouts.

Please have a physician complete a KHSSA sports physical (different from a regular physical) for your child. A sports physical is required to participate in any sport in FCPS. The form can be also be obtained at a doctor’s office.

Once the physical is complete, please email (PDF, scan, picture, etc.) the form to Emily Snowden for girls or Kevin Crump for boys.  Once the coach receives the form, they will email a conditioning workout plan. Also, if you think Morton has your child’s sports physical on file (physicals are good for one year), you can email the coaches this information and they will confirm before sending the conditioning plan (there will be a slight delay).

If you would like to continue receiving information through email, please fill out the cross country interest form. This does not commit your child or mean they are on the team.

  • FCPS announces new principal for Morton Middle School

Twanjua Jones Superintendent Manny Caulk has announced Twanjua Jones as the new principal of Morton Middle School, effective July 1, 2020. “People are passionate about wanting to be leaders in Fayette County Public Schools at this time, which is a reflection of the incredible work happening both in our schools and at the district level,” Caulk said.

Jones, who has 24 years of experience in education, began her career as a high school math teacher in North Carolina, where she also was a principal intern, assistant principal, and principal. She moved to Kentucky in 2007 and served for seven years as the associate principal at Morton before joining the district leadership team as a minority administrative intern. In 2014 she was named principal of Yates Elementary School and she has served in that role since. Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, a master’s degree in school administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Rank I in educational leadership from the University of Kentucky, where she is also pursuing her doctoral degree.

“The SBDM Council and I are excited for Mrs. Jones to return as a Mustang,” said Chief of High Schools James McMillin, who was involved with the search process. “She is an energetic and student-centered leader, and I can’t wait to see the positive changes she brings to Morton Middle School and its community.”
