About Our Program
Fayette County Public Schools opened the Carter G. Woodson Preparatory Academy in August 2021. This magnet program, which is housed in the renovated and historic Johnson Elementary building on Sixth Street, initially welcomed boys in grades K-2. It will grow over time, adding a level every year through fifth grade. The STEM-focused curriculum (science, technology, engineering, and math) is taught through the lens of African-American history, culture, and culturally responsive teaching and learning strategies.
The mission of Fayette County Public Schools is to create a collaborative community that ensures all students achieve at high levels and graduate prepared to excel in a global society.
