Hello Dixie Families:
I just wanted to let you know we will be distributing packets and materials next Tuesday, March 24, 2020 between 10:00-12:00. Only parents of children who do not have access to the internet or have been notified by their classroom teacher to pick up materials should come to the school. These packets will be used if school does not resume as planned on April 6, 2020.
In order to maintain social distancing, we will have a drive through set up. Parents picking up resources for intermediate students (grades 3, 4, and 5) will drive through the bus lane in front of the school and those with primary students (grades Pre-K, K, 1, 2) will drive through the car lane next to the primary complex doors.
If the school closure extends beyond Spring Break, this work will be required. The completion of work will be used for attendance purposes and we must have high attendance in order for these days to count.
There will be a variety of online platforms from which you can access the materials. The easiest way to access materials will be through Dixie's Learning at Home website: CLICK HERE. All resources (Grade Levels K-5, Special Area, GT/PTP, ELL, and RTI) for extended closure beyond spring break can be accessed here.
The resources can also be found by visiting the Dixie website at dixie.fcps.net.
They will also be shared on Dixie's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/dixiemagnetelementaryschool/
Please feel free to e-mail me anytime with any questions you have. I am so proud of our teachers and staff. Everyone has been working extremely hard this week to create quality lessons for your children while they are learning at home. Many teachers are going online and using a variety of platforms to connect directly with you and your child. They have done some incredible work! I know this is a stressful time for everyone. Please know how much we miss seeing your children and look forward to them returning to school. I will keep you posted regarding any updates I receive.

Dear Dixie Families,
As you know, out of an abundance of caution to help prevent community spread of COVID-19, all schools in Kentucky closed beginning March 16 and are not to reopen until April 6. This decision is not in response to a specific public health threat in our schools, but is an action to implement social distancing statewide. This week, Fayette County Public Schools applied to the Kentucky Department of Education for the approval of NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) days, should the need arise for students to continue homebound instruction after Spring Break. As such, we have developed our plan, which is outlined below.
- Week of March 16-20, 2020
- Students are to work on the packets sent home by staff on March 13. Students may also work on activities from the handout titled “FCPS Learning Unplugged,” which contains 15 days of activities in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, physical education, health and art. These activities do not require any technology usage.
- Week of March 23-27, 2020
- FCPS is treating this week like snow days. As such, students will not have assigned work to complete; however, they are encouraged to continue working within our online platforms such as Imagine Learning, Imagine Math, DreamBox, Reading Plus, etc.
- March 24, 2020 - Parents with no internet access should pick up NTI packets at Dixie from 10:00-12:00
- Week of March 30-April 3, 2020
- Spring Break
- Week of April 6-10, 2020
- *Possible NTI days 1-5
- Week of April 13-17,2020
- *Possible NTI days 6-10.
- April 20, 2020
- Return to face-to-face classes on campus.* (subject to change)
Our staff at Dixie has worked extremely hard to create two options for your family should the need arise for NTI days. Students with computers and internet access should complete the online activities assigned to them by their grade level. Students without access will be provided an NTI packet of information/assignments to complete each day. Students MUST complete either the online assignments or paper/pencil assignments from their NTI packets to receive attendance credit for these days. It is imperative for the days to count, that students complete the work assigned. All certified staff will be available to answer any questions via email, Dojo, Google Classroom, and in some instances telephone from 8:00am-2:00pm Monday-Friday.
If your family chooses to complete the NTI assignments via the online platform, you will find all this information on the Dixie website: http://dixie.fcps.net. If you have indicated you do not have access to the internet, please pick up an NTI packet. You may pick up packets at Dixie on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 from 10:00-12:00. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade parents may pick up packets in the car lane outside the complex doors. Parents of students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades can pick up their packets in front of the school using the bus lane. To maintain social distancing, we will simply hand the packet through the car window. The building will not be open to families during this time.
I know this is a very uncertain time for all of us. We miss our students terribly and wish to see them back in our building very soon. Until then, stay safe. Please know our entire school family is here to support your learning needs during this time. Please feel free to e-mail me, or call me at school if you have questions.
