FCPS Teacher Spotlight

March 2005

Debbie Case • Tates Creek Elementary, K-1

“I want all children to experience the feeling of success in my classroom. I have high expectations for all my students, and I'm willing to make whatever accommodations necessary for each child to experience success.  I enjoy the K/1 level because this is the age children discover their ability to read. It's so rewarding to watch a child start out learning letters and sounds and then progress to the point where he/she can actually read a book!

Helping each child experience success makes them excited about coming to school each day. I want to make my classroom a place where children feel capable and connected.

I like to challenge all students to do their best, work together, and develop their school skills, which eventually will be their job skills.  The main goal I have for students in my class is for them to Have Fun!!!  If they are having fun, they are learning.

Shannon RichardsonJames Lane Allen Elementary, 4th

“Each morning, twenty-four brilliant and unique students enter my classroom.  They are all held to the highest of standards, and also in the greatest regard.  The high expectation and heartfelt respect is key to our success each day as we investigate concepts, raise questions, and challenge ourselves to seek beyond the simple answers.  I truly believe teacher and class are a team of facilitator and investigators, both pushing the other to soar higher, stay focused, and grow as life long learners.  It is my hope that at the end of every day, my students re-enter the world feeling proud of their accomplishments, a little more loved and respected, and ready to ask questions and share their knowledge.”

All students need to become lifelong learners and realize they don’t stop learning after the 12th grade.  Whether a student goes to college or not, they will continue to learn new things and should appreciate the knowledge they gather.
