FCPS Teacher Spotlight

October, 2003

Diane LeindeckerBryan Station High School, Social Studies

“I try to teach my students to become productive citizens — to get involved, stand up for what they believe in and to give back to their community. As a co-coordinator for our Renaissance Program I also try to focus on rewarding and recognizing students for their achievements in what Renaissance calls our AAA — Academics, Attendance and Attitude.”

Betsy RickenbackerLTMS, Math

“I believe that most students will rise to your expectations; therefore, I expect excellence from all my students and give them many opportunities to shine. I want my students to give their best effort on every task; therefore, all assignments are graded not only on accuracy, but neatness, following directions and work. When students do well in my class, they know they have accomplished something and can be proud of themselves. I think this builds self esteem and good productive citizens.”

Demetrit RushinLafayette High School, Business

“I teach to empower, motivate, and encourage students to be the best people they can be in and outside of the classroom. I firmly believe that education is a life-long journey and try to impress upon my students that the greatest gift in life is to achieve one's educational, professional and personal goals. I love what I do and realize that I have a chance to help, shape, mold, and give back to society what was given to me — a strong, sound, and fundamental education to young men and women that will one day be leaders, business owners, and great citizens in America and the state of Kentucky.”

Vicky Scott

Vicky ScottTates Creek High School, Chemistry

“There is never a boring day in the teaching of high school students — the energy level of this age group is very demanding but so very rewarding. My job is to establish a rapport with my students, maintain a positive attitude, and most importantly an interesting curriculum. Overall, I feel so very fortunate to be a high school chemistry teacher — this job is great!”

Candy ShepardMeadowthorpe Elementary, 5th Grade Quest

"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
—William Arthur Ward

“I read this quote daily and pray that I will be a teacher who inspires. I strive to make a difference in the lives of my students and let them know I care. I instruct my students, guide them, discipline them, and hopefully inspire them to fulfill their potential. I want my students to discover their own talents and believe in themselves. Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation.”
