Staff Spotlight: Maggie Nelson
Cafeteria manager, Julius Marks Elementary

I work with a dedicated group of employees to serve colorful, nutritious meals to our students, staff and guests. We follow the National Breakfast and Lunch Guidelines to promote and encourage healthy food choices and help children establish good eating habits for a lifetime. We believe it is especially important to educate children while they are young and get them excited about trying new foods.
Our meals include low-fat milk and dairy products, 100 percent juices, reduced-fat main dishes, whole grain breads and cereals, and lots of fruits and vegetables. Our offerings here at Julius Marks also extend to the after-school program, which encourages our kids to pick healthy snacks and beverages.
As a school, we work to communicate a unified message of healthy eating and physical activity to help the students understand the value of making good choices every day and in the future.
